Johnston Canyon

Every now and then a great opportunity presents itself and last Wednesday was one of those days. After a chance introduction to Liam Fournier when shooting on the Kicking Horse recently, we discussed the options of shooting a kayaking crew on the Johnston Canyon near Banff.
After a scouting visit a couple of days prior, I met Liam and a crew of friends from Calgary who proceeded to prove me wrong with my estimation of which parts of the Canyon could be paddled!
The evening was a great opportunity to find out what works on certain sections of the river, where you can get good light (and where not!), and how best to work with a group of kayakers. As I have found with most sports, the second time shooting with an athlete tends to produce better shots, but I think we still managed to get some keepers! Thanks to: Liam Fournier, Brandon Willms, Thad Mazur, Pavel Bendl, Petr Civrny and Mike Hill for the opportunity to shoot with you – hopefully we can shoot together again soon!
Enjoy.
